Background Info:

History:
Wiki.

Personality: One could hardly say that Rider started with humble beginnings. She was the personification of the ideal goddess, created by a mankind who grew weary of the pitiless gods they worshipped. However, it never seemed to her that she was particularly blessed. Her early life was that of betrayal and servitude ending in a death that is as legendary as it is gruesome. Yet her death is not where her story ended, but merely a history for another life altogether.

Rider was born from good intentions along with her two sisters, Stheno and Euryale. Her siblings were gifted with beauty and immortality. While beautiful, Rider was mortal, left to grow and age with time. Eventually, her sisters would come to tease and taunt her for her increasing height and shapely build. They treated her as a maid and reveled in her abuse. Despite their cruelty, Rider truly loved her sisters dearly. This is likely the reason she is fixated on things and people who are small and “cute”. She longs to be like them, seeing herself as large and awkward.

With time the three sisters were regarded as heresy and their worship was outlawed. They were condemned to live on The Shapeless Isle, an uninhabitable place at the ends of the earth. This treachery only fueled Rider’s disdain for humanity. As it grew more and more intense, she manifested into a monster that devoured the humans which shunned her and her sisters. She no longer knew herself. Feeling partially responsible, her sisters allowed her to consume them as well. Her anger and rage went without bounds until she was decapitated by the hero Perseus in a moment of lucidity.

Rider is strongly shaped by her past. It’s almost as though time has never stopped for her, only paused and restarted when she was summoned to aid in the Holy Grail War as a divine spirit. She is perhaps a bit more careful and cold to others to avoid previous mistakes. As a servant she is silent and obedient. She analyzes her rival and strategizes accordingly as opposed to diving into battle blindly. Rider is intensely protective of her master, Sakura, perhaps because she sees a little of herself in her situation. She wishes to maintain the innocence and purity she finds in her, knowing full well what damage can come from despair.

When Rider is spared from battle, she is usually reserved yet polite to others. She’s calm and collected, preferring to read or drink quietly. It’s to be noted that she isn’t an evil person in spite of the horrors of her past. She’s used to being avoided and misjudged and in return simply keeps to herself. This isn’t to say she doesn’t appreciate company, she just doesn’t expect it. Frequently, she thinks on the times she shared with her sisters. She knows full well that at times they did not have her best interest at heart, but in the end, they were her family and she loved them.

It is unclear as to what Rider’s motivation may be in her current incarnation, but what is left for someone with such a stained past but the wish for redemption? Perhaps this can be found with Sakura or the other people she has met in her current state. Or maybe, by having another chance, she can finally find some peace within herself.

Game Specific:

Arcana: The Hanged Man

Justification:

-Devotion: Rider feels such a bond with her master that she would do anything in her power to bring her happiness whether it’s asked of her or not.

-Sacrifice: She shows little concern for herself when it comes to Sakura. This may also refer to her days spent with her sisters as she allowed them to talk down to her out of her love for them.

-Transformation: Rider literally became the monster the world feared and lost herself to her anger only to remember herself in her last moments.

Samples:

First Person Sample:

Pardon me.

[A soft voice can be heard on the line long before a picture makes itself clear.]

I don’t mean to be a bother, but I’m unsure as to how I got here. Certainly if I was summoned, she should be around to greet me…

[The woman’s gaze will shift about curiously.]

This doesn’t even look like Japan anymore. I-If I’ve been transported away, I should try to contact Sakura right away. She…won’t understand.

Third Person Sample:

To many people in this situation, an island is nothing more than an inconvenience. To someone like Rider who spent her life imprisoned on one, it might be considered hell. But this woman’s expression was tranquil as she looked out into the vast expanse of water before her.

Each small wave that built into another reminded her of the life she left behind; the sisters she envied, the curse which gave her purpose and pain, and the inevitable ending to the Greek tragedy. Her memories were truly bittersweet. As hard as it was to reflect, she appreciated the times she got to remember the ones she loved and lost.

It wouldn’t be long before her reverie would be interrupted by a soft sigh, one she’s grown accustomed to; a voice as dear as any sister. This was the only sound the girl needed to be perfectly understood.

“My apologies. I was in a bit of a daze, wasn’t I? We can go if you like. It’s getting late and I’m sure you want to head back to make dinner.”
